Echo Marine has a well earned reputation as an ethical and fair company and my experience certainly confirms this.  I highly recommend their products.  They are simple, work reliably, and are backed by a stand up company.

Echo Marine of Trinidad makes a line of  excellent water makers.  During the fall of 2003 I along with several cruising friends installed various models of Echo Marine's Echo² water makers on our boats.  Most of the boats installed the 9.5 or 13.5 gallon per hour systems and have reported absolutely no problems in two years with excellent water quality.

I installed their new 19.5 gallon per hour dual membrane system on Quietly.  The system produced it's full capacity with excellent water quality but over time the salinity levels crept up.  Echo immediately exchanged the membranes at no cost and the system again produced it's full capacity with excellent water quality but again over time the salinity levels crept up.  

Before returning to the U.S. in the summer of 2005 I removed and returned the pressure vessels and membranes sending them to Echo asking them to check if perhaps there was a small leak in a seal that might be causing the problem.  I received an e-mail stating that I along with with the other two boats with the 19.5 gallon per hour water makers were reporting the same problem and thanking me for sending the pressure vessels for testing.

In a few weeks I received an e-mail from Michael saying that during extensive testing they determined that the system did not meet their high standards of excellence.  The extensive testing had shown a design flaw caused by the flow rate across dual membranes.  The flow rate was not sufficient to assure complete flushing of salt from the second membrane and thus the slow increase in the salinity levels.

Michael suggested that if possible on my return to the Caribbean I stop by his office which I did in November 2005.  He was most gracious and showed me his test results and wished to replace the system with their proven 13.5 gallon per hour system and credit my account with the difference.  The $980 difference was deposited to my account as agreed and my water maker now provides excellent water quality at 13.5 gallons per hour.
